Dataristix™ 3 is moving to subscription licenses

With the release of Dataristix 3, we are moving to subscription licenses. Here are the reasons why.

Note that our subscription licenses do not dictate the deployment model. You can still install on-premises, offline, or on isolated cloud VMs. 

Over the past year, the regulatory landscape for digital products has changed significantly, most notably with the introduction of the European Union’s Cyber Resilience Act (CRA). This legislation establishes stringent new obligations for software vendors, including continuous vulnerability monitoring, mandatory incident reporting, secure‑by‑design development practices, and long‑term security maintenance commitments.

Meeting these requirements is essential to protecting our customers and ensuring our software remains compliant in all markets. However, doing so requires substantial and ongoing investment.

While the CRA is not yet in full effect, the time for preparation is now.

Under a perpetual license model, revenue is collected upfront, but the CRA requires us to maintain vulnerability monitoring for at least five years, deliver security patches throughout that entire period, respond to incidents and report them to authorities, and maintain secure update infrastructure long after the initial sale. A one‑time payment cannot reliably support five years of ongoing, legally required work, unless prices increase significantly to cover the minimum support period.

A subscription model aligns revenue with these long‑term obligations, ensuring we can maintain software as needed to stay compliant, and it keeps the price of entry low. Therefore, going forward, Dataristix 3 will be available as a subscription only. We are adopting this model globally since everybody stands to benefit from the improved security posture.

We have introduced new pricing for subscription licenses to offset ongoing costs for compliance and investment into Dataristix, with some leading-edge features planned for the near future! We do believe that prices remain highly competitive and represent more than fair value.

If you already have a subscription license: Nothing changes and your subscription price remains the same.

If you are an existing customer with prior purchase arrangements then you can continue to buy perpetual licenses including 1 year support & maintenance at Dataristix 2 prices until December 10, 2026. You can also extend support & maintenance for one year on or before that date. Please contact us directly to buy perpetual licenses or support & maintenance renewals as these are no longer offered in our online store. Software with a limited 1 year support & maintenance period cannot be sold into the EU once the CRA comes into full effect on December 11, 2027. After December 10, 2026, only subscription licenses will be available.

We will contact perpetual license holders before December 11, 2027, with discounted subscription offers to convert perpetual licenses to subscription licenses if you choose to do so. Of course, your perpetual license does not expire, and you can use it as long as you like, but please be aware that security updates may no longer be available for outdated software.
